Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our real estate courses
How many CE hours does North Carolina require annually?
NCREC requires 8 hours of approved Continuing Education annually to renew a NC real estate Broker or Provisional Broker license. The 8 hours must include: (1) 4 hours of the mandatory NC General Update course (current year version) + (2) 4 hours of an NCREC-approved elective. Fortune Academy offers both as a bundled NC CE package.
When does my NC real estate license renew?
NC real estate licenses renew annually on June 30. You must complete all 8 CE hours (4 General Update + 4 Elective) before your June 30 deadline. NCREC sends renewal reminders, but you're responsible for on-time renewal. Late renewal incurs penalties.
What is the NC General Update course?
The NC General Update is a 4-hour NCREC-approved mandatory course that all active NC Brokers and Provisional Brokers must complete every year before June 30. NCREC updates the curriculum each license year (e.g., 2025-2026 NC General Update) to cover the most recent NC real estate law changes, case updates, and regulatory developments.
Can I take NC real estate CE online?
Yes. Fortune Academy offers all NC CE courses — including the 4-hour General Update — online in self-paced format. Study on any device, pause and resume, and download your certificate instantly on completion. Your CE hours are reported to NCREC automatically within 24 hours.
What happens if I don't complete NC CE on time?
If you miss your June 30 CE deadline, NCREC will mark your license as inactive. You cannot practice real estate with an inactive NC license. To reactivate, you must complete the missed CE plus any additional NCREC requirements and pay reactivation fees. Fortune Academy's fast-track NC CE package can be completed in 1 weekend if you're close to your deadline.
How much does NC continuing education cost?
Fortune Academy's NC CE packages are competitively priced. The bundled 8-hour package (4-hr General Update + 4-hr Elective) is the most economical option. Individual 4-hour courses are also available if you need just one component. Pricing is shown on this page — see package options to the right.
Are BIC licensees required to take additional CE in NC?
Yes. NC Broker-in-Charge (BIC) licensees must complete an additional "BIC Update" course instead of the standard 4-hour NC General Update. BICs still need 4 hours of an approved elective on top of the BIC Update. Fortune Academy offers both BIC Update and BIC-appropriate electives.
Can I take the same elective two years in a row?
NCREC generally does not allow you to use the same specific elective course for credit in consecutive license years. Fortune Academy's elective library is deliberately diverse so you can pick a different approved 4-hour topic each year without repeating.
Does NCREC accept CE completed in other states?
NCREC generally does NOT accept CE completed through non-NCREC-approved providers. To satisfy NC renewal requirements, you must complete CE from a provider specifically approved by NCREC. Fortune Academy is NCREC Provider #0004 and all our NC CE courses are fully state-approved.
What elective CE topics are available in NC?
Fortune Academy offers a broad library of NCREC-approved 4-hour electives: Preparing a Market Analysis, Assistance Animals & Fair Housing, Technology Tools & Risk Management, Ethical Excellence, Document Diligence, and Managing Risk in Your Real Estate Business. All approved by NCREC for NC CE credit.
Do Provisional Brokers have the same CE requirements as full Brokers?
Yes — active NC Provisional Brokers must complete the same 8 hours of CE annually (4-hr General Update + 4-hr Elective) to renew their license. Additionally, Provisional Brokers must complete 90 hours of post-licensing education within their first 18 months (separate from CE). Fortune Academy offers all three courses — pre-licensing, post-licensing, and annual CE.
How do I prove to NCREC that I completed my CE?
When you complete each Fortune Academy NC CE course, you instantly receive a PDF certificate with the NCREC provider number, course approval ID, and your license number. Fortune Academy also electronically reports your completion to NCREC within 24 hours, so your hours appear in your NCREC record automatically.
