Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our real estate courses
What is on the North Carolina real estate Broker exam?
The NC real estate Broker PSI exam has two portions: a National portion (covering agency, contracts, finance, valuation, fair housing, and ethics) and a NC State portion (covering NC license law, NCREC regulations, NC-specific disclosures, and state forms). You have approximately 4 hours to complete both portions.
How is the NC real estate exam scored?
You must pass both portions of the NC PSI exam separately. The passing score is typically 75% on each portion. If you fail one portion, you only need to retake that portion, not the whole exam. Each retake requires a new PSI exam fee.
How many times can I take the NC Broker exam?
PSI allows retakes of the NC Broker exam, with each attempt requiring a new exam fee (approximately $64). After multiple failed attempts, NCREC may require you to complete additional pre-licensing education before retaking. Fortune Academy's NC exam prep is specifically designed to help you pass on the first try.
How should I prepare for the NC PSI Broker exam?
Effective prep strategy: (1) complete unlimited practice exams in PSI format, (2) review detailed rationales for every missed question, (3) focus extra study on NC-specific topics like NC license law and state-specific agency rules, and (4) use timed practice tests to build exam-day endurance. Fortune Academy's NC Exam Prep Edge includes all four.
How much does NC exam prep cost?
Fortune Academy offers NC exam prep in several packages. The full NC Exam Prep Edge (National + State portions) includes unlimited practice exams, study materials, and instructor support. Pricing is shown on this page — see package options to the right. Money-Back Pass Guarantee refunds your prep fee if you don't pass on the first try.
Do I need exam prep if I already completed pre-licensing?
While the 75-hour NC pre-licensing course teaches you the content, PSI exam prep focuses specifically on HOW PSI tests that content — question phrasing, trick answer patterns, and time management. Students who take both pre-licensing AND exam prep pass at an 85% first-time rate — significantly higher than those who skip exam prep.
What is PSI and why does NC use them?
PSI Services is a nationally accredited testing company that administers licensing exams for 30+ U.S. states, including North Carolina. NCREC contracts with PSI to deliver the real estate Broker exam through secure, standardized testing centers. You schedule your NC PSI exam online at candidate.psiexams.com.
Can I take NC exam prep if I completed pre-licensing at another school?
Yes. Fortune Academy's NC Exam Prep Edge works for anyone preparing for the NC PSI Broker exam, regardless of where you completed your 75-hour pre-licensing education. If you completed pre-licensing elsewhere, our exam prep is a focused 1–3 week supplement that closes the PSI-specific gap.
How long should I study with exam prep before my NC exam?
Most Fortune Academy students spend 1–3 weeks with NC Exam Prep Edge before their PSI exam date. Plan 10–20 hours of focused practice — take 3–5 full-length practice exams, review rationales for every missed question, and do a final timed mock exam 1–2 days before your actual test. This cadence produces our 85% first-time pass rate.
Are NC State-portion practice questions included?
Yes. Fortune Academy's NC Exam Prep Edge includes dedicated State portion practice covering NCREC license law, NC-specific agency and disclosure rules, and state real estate forms. The State portion trips up many candidates — our NC-focused practice directly addresses those gaps.
