What is the duration of a real estate license course in Texas?
Texas requires 180 classroom hours of qualifying education, and TREC rules do not allow daily qualifying-course segments to exceed 12 hours. Total licensing time also depends on application review, fingerprinting and the background check, exam scheduling, and broker sponsorship.
Can you take the Texas real estate exam without classes?
No. Texas sales agent applicants must complete 180 hours of qualifying real estate education. TREC reviews the required education before sending exam scheduling instructions to Pearson VUE. Processing times can change, so check TREC’s current processing dates.
How long does it take to get a Texas real estate license?
On average, it takes between four (4) and five (5) months to get a Texas real estate license depending on the pace in which you complete the 180 hours of pre-licensing courses and pass your licensing examination, the time it takes you to complete the fingerprinting and application process, find a sponsoring broker, and application processing times.
What are the requirements to get a real estate license in Texas?
To get a Texas real estate sales agent license, you must be at least 18, be a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted alien, meet TREC’s standards for honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity, complete 180 hours of qualifying education, apply through the REALM Portal, complete required fingerprinting and a background check, and pass the licensing exam. After these requirements are met, TREC can issue an inactive license. You need sponsorship from an active Texas licensed broker to move to active status and perform brokerage services. Do I need a college degree to get a real estate license in Texas?
No. TREC does not list a college degree as a requirement for a Texas sales agent license. If you completed one of the required qualifying real estate courses for academic credit at an accredited college or university, you can submit a transcript for evaluation, but a general transcript or degree does not replace the six required courses.
What is on the Texas real estate sales agent exam?
The Texas sales agent licensing exam includes a national portion and a Texas-specific state portion. The current Pearson VUE candidate handbook allows 150 minutes for the national portion and 90 minutes for the state portion. What happens after I pass the Texas real estate exam?
After you pass the exam and clear the background check, TREC can issue an inactive sales agent license. To begin practicing, you need sponsorship from an active Texas licensed broker and must move the license to active status through the REALM Portal.
